An Angel With Four Paws
"I was drawn to her almost instantly."
*** UPDATE: Ava and her siblings have all have found their forever homes! ***
Every rescue I have ever know is always overflowing with puppies. This brings laughter to the rescue as we watch them grow and tears as we say goodbye when they get adopted. And from the working standpoint, we all will agree, puppies in house mean a lot of work. Extra cleaning because they don’t have enough vaccinations for protection and most of all, extra poop! We here at Peace, Love and Animals don’t allow our puppies to go outside until 10 days after their second Parvo vaccine. So potty time is usually in the kitchen floor followed by lots of paper towels and disinfectant! But it is all part of raising our puppies in a safe and healthy environment.
Just when you think that all of your puppies have finally gotten old enough to safely go outside and the work load seems better….then someone comes in the front door begging me to take 3 more puppies or they are going to take them to the Pound. This always tears at my heart when I hear the word “Pound”. So, I go look at what she has. Scared and hiding in the floor of her car were the 3 tiny little puppies. And yes, I took them.
Well, once again, we are back in the puppy routine. As I am getting everything ready for the new puppies, beds, food, and water bowls, I begin to play and love on each to check them out. That is when I discovered something different about one of the little girl puppies. She was very quiet and seemed to want to hide in the back while the other two ran around like puppies usually do. Her eyes were very sad and her little ears drooped down. I was drawn to her almost instantly. I scooped her up to comfort her and that is when I felt the little tail she seemed to be hiding all along. Somewhere in this poor babies past, her tail had been broken in multiple places. When the injury healed, her tiny tail is crooked and deformed. Feeling my heart break for the pain this baby must have went through with this injury, I just wanted to hold her so close. As I sat and cuddled this darling baby, I looked down at her feet to only be amazed again. She has 5 perfect toes on each back foot! The extra toe looks just like a thumb, making her feet look almost human.
In this litter, there was one boy and I named him Memphis. The two girls are Darcy and Ava. Memphis is the perfect little hound dog and has now found his forever home. Darcy is just the little diva that is full of energy and vanity. And of course, Ava is my sweet little baby. She may be different but one thing is for sure; she is beautiful, happy, loving and perfect. When I look back on the day that these puppies came, I have no regrets. It was a good day. Because on this day… I rescued two puppies and one Angel with four paws.
Darcy and Ava are still waiting for their forever homes. If you are interested in adopting one of the precious babies, please contact us at Peace, Love and Animals.
Bless You,
